Cylindrical, conical, azimuthal
Cylindrical, conical, azimuthal refers to the principles of mapping and navigation as well as technical methods of representing the Earth. For example, navigation at sea requires a graphic representation of the curved Earth’s surface. One method used for this is the so-called map projection, in which the three-dimensional globe is projected onto a two-dimensional surface using sectional and projection patterns. Cylindrical, conical, azimuthal takes up the axes used for this projection method and translates them into an independent sculptural work.
